The Nutcracker Station: Cracking Any Size, Any Season

The Nutcracker Station is known for pecans—lots of them. But owner Kimberly Stark Dickinson wants neighbors to know that her family’s services go far beyond the typical harvest season.

While the storefront is a seasonal staple, the cracking never stops. Whether you have a modest 10-pound batch or a massive 200-pound haul from the backyard orchard, the Dickinson family can handle the heavy lifting. If the shop is closed for the season, simply text for an appointment; they will meet you at the store to get your harvest processed.

It is a year-round open door for local pecan customers to relax and let the pros do the work—no matter how small the batch.

From Shells to Smoke: A BBQ Level-Up

Cracking thousands of pounds of pecans annually creates an obvious byproduct: thousands of pounds of shells. During a recent visit, I asked Kimberly’s sister, Angela, if the shells were still recycled for landscaping. She paused to pick a sharp fragment out of her boot as we tromped over a landscape bed and laughed. “Not anymore!”

Her nephew, Michael, has found a better use for the waste, processing the shells into premium barbecue pellets sold right in the shop. Because they are packed with natural pecan oils, the pellets produce a heavy, flavorful smoke that sets them apart from standard pecan wood.

As their Facebook page suggests, it’s an easy way to "level up your BBQ game." I even grabbed a bag for my grill-master son. Like the shop’s pecan-cracking services, these pellets are available year-round—just text the shop to coordinate an out-of-season pickup.

Local Find: Seasonal Flavors at The Nutcracker Station

For those prepping for holiday baking or gifting, The Nutcracker Station offers premium, local pecans in season. I picked up a few pounds for my annual batch of sugared curry pecans at Christmas, and the quality of the local harvest is excellent.

The shop is also a great spot to discover other area makers. The shelves are filled with locally sourced jams, jellies, and pecan-based candies. It’s worth taking a minute to browse the toffee and preserves—they usually have samples available so you can taste what’s in season.

As their namesake suggests, the shop is also a nutcracker collector’s dream, featuring nutcrackers galore. The selection ranges from whimsical, decorative pieces perfect for a holiday mantel to heavy-duty, functional models built for serious kitchen work.

The Nutcracker Station operates during pecan season, October through December, and cracks pecans year-round by appointment.
