Crack those nuts and smoke up the BBQ. Nutcracker Station has "All Things Pecans"

The Nutcracker Station sells pecans, lots of pecans. But owner Kimberly Stark Dickinson wanted customers to know about two unique things about her family’s seasonal pecan shop:1. Despite being a seasonal retailer, her family cracks pecans all year round. Simply text them for an appointment if the shop is closed; they’ll meet you at the store and start cracking. 2. No worries if you have a small ten-pound batch. They’ll process that and your neighbor’s 200-pound harvest as well. Just relax and let them do the work—any time of the year.

Kim’s husband and Mayor of Bertram, Mike Dickinson, processes pecans for a customer.

Of course, cracking thousands of pounds of pecans annually means thousands of pounds of small pecan bits and shells. “Are those shells recycled for landscaping?” I asked Kimberly’s sister, Angela, as we crunched over the sharp shells surrounding their building. She paused to pick a shell out of her boot. “Not anymore!” Her nephew, Michael, now processes them into barbecue pellets and sells them in the shop. The shell and pecan oils infuse the pellets with a unique flavor and produce lots of smoke. Pecan wood, they are not. “Level up your BBQ game,” states their Facebook page. Okay, I will! I bought a bag for my grill-master son. Like the pecan cracking services, they are available out of season too. Just text the shop to meet up.

I bought five pounds of shelled, premium, local Pawnee pecans for $15 per pound. (I bake sugared curry pecans for Christmas gifts.) However, I was surprised by their many other items: jams, jellies, toffee, and candies—most pecan-based and sourced locally. Samples too!
